Tunnel Ventilation

Tunnel ventilation, a most popular system that is using in tropical regions. The system can effectively reduce the room temperature and now it's used in many applications like animal farms and factories. The evidence shows that tunnel ventilation can reduce animal mortality, and improve health conditions. The system is basically erected by two major items, the exhaust fans and cooling pads. The exhaust fans bring the inside air to outside, to create negative pressure so the fresh air can come into the room from cooling pads. When the fresh air go through the wet cooling pads, this process reduces the air temperature, so the room temperature can be reduced also.

There are some guidelines that can be using to check if your tunnel ventilation is having correct design.

1. Air Speed, all different animals are required suitable air speed. The air speed can't be too low or too high either. The high air speed can cause disease problems, the low air speed will not meet the needs or even not giving enough air per animal. For example with 2KG broiler, the minimum air speed should be higher than 1.5m/s, and not exceeding 3.0m/s.
2. Negative Pressure, this is related to air speed, fan performance, and static pressure. We suggest the maximum negative pressure is -40pa.
3. Air per Animal, like the air speed, all different animals are required to have different breathing air volume. For example with 2KG broiler, the minimum air per bird should be more than 8.6 m3/hr.
